A little bit about us...

Marc Membreno has played drums for over thirty years and has toured and recorded extensively. He has recorded and released albums with Norman Allan, 5 Cool What?, Allies, and The Volcanoes as well as various independently released albums by solo artists.

More recently, Marc completed a trip to the UK where he played with "The Tearaways" in the International Beatleweek Festival in Liverpool to SRO crowds at various venues in the city.

He has played locally with surf/spy instrumental band "Agency EL84" and country honky-tonk band "Way Out West" as well as with The Tearaways in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.

Marc enjoys playing a wide variety of music including, but not limited to Power Pop, Rock, Funk, Country, Progressive, Hard Rock and World Music.

When not banging away on the drums, Marc enjoys repairing, refinishing and restoring vintage drums at his studio workshop. He has restored several vintage Slingerland drums sets as well as snare drums, and has been featured in Modern Drummer magazine with "Kit Of The Month" honors.

Our wonderful students...

I can’t recommend Marc enough as a drum teacher! He is not only an amazing musician in his own right, but also a fantastic instructor who truly knows his stuff across a wide range of musical genres. What I appreciate most about Marc is how he customizes his lessons to fit each student’s individual level and interests. Whether you’re just starting out or have been playing for years, he’ll make sure you’re challenged an engaged every step of the way. I also love how he’s able to identify the specific areas where I struggle and provide targeted instruction to help me improve. Thanks to Marc, I can feel myself growing as a drummer with every lesson!

Marc is everything you want in a music teacher. He is an accomplished musician who hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be a student just learning to play.  If something is holding you back, he can identify it and show you how to overcome it.  He takes the time to learn about where you are and works with you to get you where you want to be.

He is friendly and engaging and is able to relate to students of all ages and abilities.  He’s serious about teaching but he makes the lessons challenging and fun. Learning drums is not easy, but Marc is patient and encouraging. He helps you master the fundamental skills and then build on that foundation to become a better drummer. I highly recommend Marc as a drum teacher.

I absolutely recommend Marc as an instructor. I’ve been taking lessons for six months and I always look forward to going. He makes learning the drums fun and I always leave my lessons with a lot of energy and excited to practice what I learned. He listens to my goals and provides tips and instructions in a fun and non-stressful way.

I have been taking lessons with Marc for the last several months and he is an excellent teacher with a fantastic studio space! I started as a complete beginner adult on drums, and learning with Marc has meant a great blend of technique, rudiments and playing to songs. He balances all 3 so you can really feel the progress and also have fun along the way! He puts you at ease, helps you focus on areas that need more work and is very encouraging. He has helped me a lot with figuring out pieces for my kit as well. I look forward to my weekly class with Marc, one of my favorite parts of the week!
